Tronix is a DMS (Dealer Management System) that provides an easy-to-use web platform that dealerships use to sign their customers up for warranty options. These options ranged from Vehicle Service Agreements to GAP Coverage.
This company has been around since 1994 and needed a refresh on its look and feel. This included revamping the visual design of the web platform. Today, this product is being used throughout the United States at hundreds of dealerships.
I was brought in to rework the look and feel of the web platform. I was the only designer assigned to the project. I wasn’t creating any new workflows or introducing new features. I was merely taking the existing product and giving it a new and fresh look.
Dealerships have not only the job of selling vehicles but selling warranties and services as well. This is a large part of their business and is usually done through a large amount of paperwork and hand-to-hand exchanges. Tronix solves this by moving these processes into a web platform and eliminates the lengthy paperwork process.
Mocks / Designs
The product wasn’t going to change in the way it operated functionally; it just needed a redesign on the visible portion of the platform. The tools used to design this product were Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. We used a bootstrap framework to make everything responsive while keeping the integrity of the original product.
The primary challenge in redesigning Tronix was keeping everything as simple as possible. There is a lot that goes into these services and contracts, so the amount of data on each screen can be overwhelming.
This was a fun project for me. Similar to Spark, I was able to focus more on the design of the platform. I wasn’t allowed to remove elements, and everything needed to work in the same way as it did before, but visually I had freedom. To keep things simple for the development team, I tried to keep everything in the same order and arrangement on the screen.
